We've been watching Staves & Grain put out killer barrels for the last year, and when we got the chance to get one of our very own, we were all over it. They know how we like it. MGP rye, cask strength, unfiltered, just served up straight from the barrel into your glass.

This barrel #31 comes in right around 58%, 116 proof. It's got a beautiful deep-steeped tea color.

That NOSE! Damn kid! It's got just everything we look for in a killer rye. Vanilla, oak & char for miles, tobacco, candy bar nougat and caramel. And then the spices start to tickle the nose. Black pepper & bbq chiles, orange zest, then big hits of baking spices - brown sugar, cloves, nutmeg. It's super well rounded, rich, and just full of amazing aromas!

The palate is thick, sweet, and oily. Those big hits of vanilla and spice keep going. Lovely wood, sweet candy, and a mix of savory and bakery spices.

This is a BEAST, full-flavored bottle that sits right in the pocket at full proof. It's a red-alert danger bottle, if you leave it on the bar it will be killed in a heartbeat. The finish is long and cozy with a lot of warmth coming up from the chest whil the sweet candy swirls in from the sides of the mouth.
