Holy shit Ladies & Gentlemen, this one is a BANGER! We've been hunting after the elusive One Eight Distilling and their legendary over-aged MGP cask strength bourbon barrels. Good news and bad news: We're happy to announce we're the first in New York to get our hands on some of our very own barrels, however we also found out that these are the end of this over-aged MGP stock. So these will be the first and the last... ever. Giddy-the-fuck-up!
Just fair warning, if you're still reading this, this barrel may already be gone. It's only 114 bottles, and it the BIGGEST yield we got from any of these barrels. When we say Unicorn Barrel, you know we're not fucking around. And in this case... well... we're really not fucking around. Fourteen year old MGP high-rye bourbon at cask strength, non-chill-filtered, it just doesn't get much better than this.
The nose is so deep and lovely. Tons of tree bark, charred woody sweetness, deep oak wood, tobacco, sweet cola syrup. Then we get lovely rich spices, anise, black licorice, spearmint, raw tobacco leaves, wild flowers, cocoa nibs. The palate goes deep into root beer, nicely browned french toast with syrup, it's just so deep and lovely. Melting vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. Is that a hint of whipped cream? It's like an ice cream sundae, but somehow that rich wood and spice is still there and completely glorious.
The finish is perfect, an immediate short punch of oak and spice in the front of the mouth. Then sweets softly rolling own the tongue. No burn, but incredible richness of flavor. So much vanilla and sweets and wood all just rolling together.
Honestly we'd drink this shit ALL NIGHT. Don't miss out on a truly special barrel. A fourteen year cask stregnth MGP honey barrel is a true unicorn these days and who knows when we'll get these kinds of goods again.
